Become a PIPPS Parent Mentor!

Are you a parent who has felt frustrated by conflicting advice about caring for your baby? Have you ever wondered about the emotional needs of your baby, and how best to support your babies’ healthy brain development?  

Learn about what the research says, and use it to support other new families in your community as a Certified PIPPS Parent Mentor!  

We are running our very first PIPPS Parent Mentor training days in Redlands, Brisbane, in partnership with the Brisbane South Primary Health Network - FREE!

After attending 5 days of easy-going, fun and interactive training spread comfortably over 2 weeks, you can walk away with 2 certifications - PIPPS Parent Mentor, and Mental Health First Aid Certificate.

Then, if you are eligible, you could start your own online or F2F PIPPS group, and support your local community!


Day 1: Tuesday 1 May 2018 - Peer support and consumer participation in the perinatal period

You will learn basic Parent Mentor skills, how to apply them in the perinatal period, and the fundamentals of consumer participation.

Day 2: Thursday 3 May 2018 - OPTIONAL Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Part 1

MHFA is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. You will learn how to have supportive and empathetic conversations with someone who is struggling

Day 3: Tuesday 15 May 2018 - OPTIONAL : Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Part 2

Continuation of the MHFA Training. On completion of both days of MHFA training, you can be certified as a Mental Health First Aider to be used on your CV and in any workplace!

Day 4: Thursday 17 May 2018 - Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC) Workshop: Simple strategies for managing difficult thoughts and feelings in the perinatal period

You will learn simple applications of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, to support yourself and others experiencing difficult thoughts and feelings through this challenging time of life, so that you and those you support find empowerment and enjoyment.

Day 5: Friday 18 May 2018 - NDC Workshop: Why is there so much conflicting advice about caring for our babies, and what are the best ways forward?

You will learn about the most up to date international research and simple applications of Neuroprotective Developmental Care in:

  • Parent-baby sleep
  • Breastfeeding
  • Crying and settling
  • Baby’s sensory needs
  • Baby’s neuro-development
  • Emotional wellbeing for parents and babies

By completing Day 1, Day 4 and Day 5, you may be eligible to be certified as a PIPPS Parent Mentor!

Times: 9:00am – 2:30pm each day. We will provide in-room play support for babies and children.

Venue: Myhorizon - 1-15A Runnymede Road, Capalaba, for interested parents or grandparents in the Redlands region. (Link through to Events)
