Masterclasses in Neuroprotective Developmental Care Program

DAY ONE - Certification Workshop 1

12 Category 2 points in the RACGP QI&CPD Program for the 2017-2019 triennium.  For registered midwives:  you will receive 6 CPD hours.  For Lactaction Consultants you will receive 6 L CERPs.  Registered Nurses and Psychologists may claim 6 CPD points.

Evidence-based care of mothers and babies: gaps and controversies

Parents receive conflicting advice concerning the management of difficulties with breastfeeds, sleep and crying. This confusion among health professionals may even, paradoxically, worsen the problems or worsen parental anxiety, increasing the risk of postnatal depression.  This workshops lays down the evidence for Neuroprotective Care also known as “The Possums Program”.

Advanced Clinical Tools for Management of Breastfeeding, Cry-fuss, Sleep and Mood Problems: Masterclasses in Neuroprotective Developmental Care

Breastfeeding difficulties and unsettled behaviour are modifiable risk factors for postnatal depression, yet parents report being overwhelmed by conflicting advice; babies are often treated with pharmaceutical and surgical interventions which don’t improve outcomes; and many breastfeeding problems remain unidentified and unmanaged. Join us for two days of intensive hands-on clinical upskilling. Our Certification days offered you the evidence-base; now, in response to demand from our participants, we are offering you opportunity to learn, practice and be assessed in the specific NDC skillsets

DAY TWO - Masterclass 1

40 Category 1 Points RACGP (ALM).  For registered midwives:  you will receive 10 CPD hours.  For Lactation Consultants you will receive 10.75 L & 1 R CERPs.

Focussed Clinical Breastfeeding Support

The innovative gestalt approach to fit and hold (‘latch and positioning’) problems is based upon ultrasound studies of breastfeeding babies’ suck and swallow.  Signs of positional instability at the breast are still typically misdiagnosed as reflux, allergy or oral ties. This activity aims to ensure you acquire a set of focussed clinical skills for identifying and effectively assisting with a wide range of breastfeeding problems in time-constrained environments, building on the gestalt model.

DAY THREE - Masterclass 2

40 Category 1 Points RACGP (ALM).  For registered midwives:  you will receive 10 CPD hours.  For Lactation Consultants you will receive 10.75 L & 1 R CERPs.

Focussed Management of Infant Cry-fuss and Sleep Problems

This activity will teach clinical skills for managing unsettled infant behaviour in time constrained consultations, using our templates for the Possums Sleep Intervention and the Possums Five Domain Approach to Cry-fuss Problems.  Both days include demonstrations with volunteer families and rich opportunities for practice.
